What is Full-Aniline Leather?

Full-aniline (or sometimes referred to as pure-aniline) leather €” is top-grain leather that has been dyed with a translucent, pigment-free dye after the tanning process. This type of dye, known as an aniline dye, improves the appearance of the leather but does not alter its color or hide its blemishes €” in fact, it enhances them, allowing natural features of the hide-like scars to show through. Because of this, only the highest-quality hides with very few markings are selected to undergo the full-aniline process.

What is Semi-Aniline Leather?

Semi-aniline leather also undergoes a dyeing process post-tanning, but a more rigorous one than the treatment undertaken by full-aniline leather. The dye used for semi-aniline leather is pigmented, resulting in uniform color throughout the final hide (along with the option for funkier colors that don €™t occur naturally in cattle). This more opaque and colorful dye effectively hides any blemishes in the natural hide, which allows using a less expensive hide to be used. In addition to this color treatment, semi-aniline leather also receives an additional protective top coat that protects it from scratches, sunlight, and other wear.

Sofa's Frame: All frames are solid hardwoods. Not plywood or particle board. Frame joints are double-dowelled, glued, and screwed for lasting strength.

Sofa's Cushions: The core is made of coil springs, each individually pocketed. The Marshall unit is surrounded by a foam box wrapped in a thick layer of comfort bond fiber. The wrapped core is covered with sewn channels filled with down.

Sofa's Seating: The 8-way hand-tied process is the hallmark of fine upholstery. This process stabilizes the coil springs and causes the entire spring set to work in unison.

Sofa's Back Cushions: Fiber plush back cushions are made up of 2" hollow polyester fibers siliconized to cut down on the friction between fibers, thus reducing clumping and matting.

Sofa's Leather:  Uptown Sebastian's  aniline leathers are selected for a natural appearance, with distinctive markings that impart unique character. We only use top-grain leathers from the World's finest tanneries.
