Leather Swatches

Leather is the one thing you should not choose from a screen. Pick the swatches you want to see below and we will send them to you, so you can judge the color, finish and feel in your own light before you commit to a piece that is built to order.

How to choose

Select a grade, then choose the colors you want from that grade's palette. The five grades -- Standard, Premium, Signature, Elite and Supreme -- each carry their own set of colors and finishes, so the palette changes as you move between them. If you are still deciding on a grade, pick a few from each.

Three or four swatches side by side is a decision. A dozen is a stall.

What to do when they arrive

• Put them where the furniture will go, held vertically against the wall rather than lying flat.
• Look three times -- morning daylight, mid-afternoon, and at night under your own bulbs. Warm bulbs push tans and browns toward orange; cool daylight pulls them gray.
• Hold them against what stays -- your floor, your rug, your wall color, your wood tones.
• Handle them. An uncoated aniline hide will mark under a thumbnail and recover; a protected finish will not mark at all. That one test tells you which family of leather you are buying.

Good to know

• Leather is a natural material. Shade, grain and markings vary from panel to panel and hide to hide, so a finished piece is a close relative of the swatch rather than a photocopy.
• Swatch sets are final sale and cannot be returned.
• Made-to-order furniture averages 8-10 weeks to build, so order swatches early if you are working to a date.
